day two.
Well, I made it to day two.
Lydia & I got up this morning at 6:45 in an attempt to observe the morning shows. KICY has two stations, one on the AM, and one on the FM. The AM station plays lots of southern gospel, and news (for a schedule, click here), while the FM plays contemporary Christian. We sat in with Lon in the AM studio. It was pretty interesting to watch, and about 10 minutes in, he got to interview & introduce us on the air! At 7:30 we headed up with Neil to the jr./sr. high school to cover live, See you at the Pole. We got to participate in this event, and got to meet some pastors, parents & kids from the youth group. It was kind of a hard event to cover, but it went pretty well…it was broadcast on both stations.
Lydia & I then got a staff orientation from Dennis, and we went over policies & procedures. We took a break and went back home for a while, and we planned to meet Dennis in town. Lydia & I went and explored the town, and also found the job office. We got some pretty good leads on jobs! We met Dennis at the Polar Cafe at 11:45, before the rotary meeting. We had lunch down there, and were introduced to the rotary. We then headed back to the station where we got some training in the studio on how to voicetrack. Lydia and I then spent a few hours trying to get a show recorded for playback tomorrow afternoon.
Lydia & I headed home to start preparing dinner…however I headed back to the studio not to much longer to record “The Edge: Music for Youth in Western Alaska”. A show that while tonight I was just a guest on, will probably be a show that we host in a few weeks…. it was pretty rocky.
We’ve got some more interesting stuff planned for tomorrow, and Friday we head out for a weekend staff retreat!
