He’s Alive!!

019th Jan 2006blog entries, travel

Yes, after many weeks…..the northslope blog is alive once again. Write mom, wake the kids, and start looking for your favorite northslope features to start coming back over the next few weeks. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, a super fun new year, and a productive adjustment back to work/school.

I’m writing today’s blog entry from the same city that I was in exactly one year ago. No, we didn’t fly back up to Nome…..We’re not in Anchorage, We’re not even on the west coast today. We flew into Washington DC this morning for a family wedding, and will be staying with our good friends the Convers, who moved here about 6 months ago so Isaac could attend Georgetown Law School.

It was on January 18th last year that we few into WADC on another red-eye flight and then took a nap in a Senate parking garage, before going to a black tie dinner at the library of congress, and it was one year ago today that got to interview a US Senator in her office. That was an amazing trip we had….and while I know this one won’t be filled with meeting dignitaries and viewing a president get sworn into office, we’re still excited to be here and spend some quality time with some really good friends and our family.

So, it was the redeye again this year, and we just took the nap that attempts to make up for an evening of sleep…..yeah, those never work. I also foolishly left my contacts in on the plane, so we arrived and I actually had red eyes. I think eye drops are ridiculous, I’m standing in the bathroom with contact solution over my face, wincing knowing that as soon the drop hits my eye I’ll start crying.

Anyways, we’re here…we’re getting up, and we might go take the metro to Union station. It’s much warmer here today that it was last year (not snowing). This is just the beginning of my travel month, I’ll try and update you each time I’m someplace new.
