And a friend’s a friend forever….
Hello once again, from this little spot on earth that we like to call Nome. It’s been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, err….Nome. Actually it hasn’t really been that quiet lately! This past weekend we had our first non-family guests come to visit us. Isaac and Andrea Conver braved Alaska Airlines flight 152 on Saturday morning, and stayed all the way through Tuesday morning. It was great having them here and showing them all around town.
We got a few games of “settlers of catan” in, and realized it’s been quite a long time since we broke out settlers! We also had an excuse to go to the “Norton Sound Seafood” plant and buy us some fresh (live) crabs. They were very delicious, so delicious that it motivated us to go the next day and try crabbing ourselves. Now, crabbing is something that I’ve aspired to do, even months and months before we moved up here to Nome. We went out on the frozen ocean via snowmachine, and started digging a hole in the ice. The hole ended up having to be a lot deeper than we were expecting, but after about 2 feet we finally broke though. We put down our baited fishing line with chunks of previously frozen salmon at the end, and all we could do was wait….back where it was warmer, our house. We drove back out a few more times and checked on the lines, but never had too much of a response (or any at all). Hopefully they had a great weekend seeing the rest of town via van tour, foot and four-wheeler. I feel like they got a pretty authentic Nome experience.
What else has been going on?….hmmm. Well, it still is basketball season and I just got done running the board for one game this evening. Iditarod is still coming up, and things are looking GREAT, I’m sure I’ll keep you updated.
Other than that things are running pretty normal. I found out from Isaac that northslope.net doesn’t look to hot when you are using the firefox browser…I guess that means I’ve got some work to do sometime….but it could be fun. Sorry to all you firefox users.
I haven’t heard from very many friends back home lately, other than the ones who just were up here. If you’re reading this, go ahead and send me/us an email.
