So, Glaciers huh? They’re cool.
We are having a pretty great time. We arrived yesterday around 4:00, and after getting picked up at the airport went to the Bronczyk’s house (my aunt & uncle). After getting settled Lydia & I went to downtown Anchorage to see the sights. We walked around and looked for a place to eat dinner. Eventually we ended up going back to the residential area and eating at a Mongolian Grill (had nothing on Changs). We then went to the Diamond Center mall and walked around. It was quite the mall. There was a movie theater, ice skating rink, bowling alley, regular clothing stores (Gap, Old Navy, etc..), but there were also sections of offices (speech therapist, orthodontist, law firms). It was pretty unique, and pretty cool. We got home around 9 and went to bed not to long after.
This morning I slept in until around 9 (Lydia slept a little later), and we hung around the house figuring out what we wanted to do. We decided on Portage, where there is a National Park Visitor’s Center and lots of glaciers. We made the hour or so drive down the highway with a small pit stop for lunch and ice cream (see post below). Portage was great, we watched the little 20 minute video about glaciers, and explored the visitor’s center. We then went for a hike on a trail that takes you up about 1 mile to view the Byron glacier. We took lots of pictures on the hike, and on both legs of the car ride, we will post them when we get our computer unpacked in Nome.
Tomorrow we will probably goto church, then head out to Costco to stock up for the long winter :).
Until then,
-j&l
P.S. I’m changing the blog into Alaska Standard Time.
