Countdown: 5 hours, 50 minutes
Countdown: 5 hours, 35 minutes
Well, the day is here. Lydia and I are getting our final preparations ready before we head out to the airport in a few hours. Its difficult to believe that it’s already time to go, and it’s really hard to comprehend the gravity of what is happening this morning. There are so many ties here at home, that are very hard to leave. However we know that God has some amazing things in store for us, and we can’t wait to get to our new home.
The past three days have been a whirlwind of packing, trips to the store, and hard goodbyes. Yesterday was pretty insane. We left the house around 11:30, and had our 4 boxes ready to be delivered to the post office. Once we got there, we found out that we could only ship 1 of our 4 prepared boxes. Two of our boxes were 1/2 inch to thick (or girthy as the mailman put it) and the other one was to heavy for the 70lb weight limit. We took the news as well as we could, and went back out to the UPS store to purchase 3 smaller boxes. We took the three new boxes with us to the church parking lot where we re-packed most of our belongings for the next 12 months. Our second trip to the post office was extremely more successful than the first (and quite a bit more expensive too).
Then we went to arbor village, Lydia’s old stomping grounds. She had a blast seeing former co-workers & residents.
Then onto a very sad goodbye for the Rogers’ – Soho Teriyaki.
It was then onto a few more errands at Ross, Target & Payless Shoes before heading over to my parents house for a delicious steak dinner.
Lydia and I headed home around 8:15 after a very full day. We got back just in time to catch the season premier of “The Apprentice” as we finished packing our checked bags.
I suppose the next 24 hours will be just as hectic as the past few days have been, but we are really hoping to slow down in anchorage, and relax before heading up to Nome. We have a few sets or errands to run, but we are hoping to get some sightseeing in, and maybe some trips to old landmarks for me. I’m really excited about being in Anchorage, a place that while I still have very vivid memories of growing up in, still haven’t been to for about 12 years.
I’m sure the best is yet to come!
